Ruth Kassi Akul

Ruth is a mother of four children who loves to paint P.N.G tribal faces using acrylic paints and sew Maeri blouses. Living in the Eastern Highlands, Lae, Morobe Province, Ruth has been helping her artist husband to sell his paintings at the local craft market and after learning her painting skills from him, now hopes to sell her own artworks to tourists and art collectors.

Ruth uses her paintings to show the different cultures of Papua New Guinea and their unique traditional bilas, connecting P.N.G as one country. By creating a business from her pieces Ruth intends to sustain her family’s living and contribute to promoting the unique cultures of her country.
